Simplicity is not ‘simple’
On one of my favorite walks through the Presidio in San Francisco, I found these two daisies that seemed to shout out from just off the pathway to remind me to notice the beauty in the simple things surrounding me. Their white petals and yellow centers were gleaming against their green surroundings.
I love that it seems like these two flowers are about to dance, like one is doing a curtsey while the other is holding out its arm. These flowers were so sweet and they held a message about how much joy you can find in the simplest things that surround us in our daily routines.
And in my practice as an artist I am a believer that simplicity is not “simple”. It takes a lot of editing and subtracting using both the logical and intuitive parts of the mind to strip down to the true essence of a thing.
And don’t you kind of feel that way about the daisy - it somehow has exactly the right amount of things to be a delightful ‘daisy’ and not anything more or less. I find it simply miraculous when you take the time to slow down and really think about it!
